This paper has been co-authored with Suraqua Fahad, whose academic guidance, institutional insight, and sustained efforts played a crucial role in shaping the manuscript and steering it through the publication process.
The study explores the evolving intersection of Artificial Intelligence, socio-cultural languages, and Social Work perspectives, grounded in the policy framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It examines how AI can support the preservation, promotion, and computational development of India’s rich linguistic diversity, while also critically engaging with its limitations.
While AI enables improved translation, enhanced computational linguistics, and efficient language processing, the paper also highlights key concerns around contextual understanding, subjectivity, algorithmic bias, and potential job displacement—especially within culturally embedded language practices.
The central argument emphasizes that technological interventions must be inclusive, participatory, and community-led, ensuring that AI serves as a tool for empowerment rather than exclusion, and that the digital divide does not deepen existing inequalities.
Grateful to see this work published and hopeful that it contributes meaningfully to ongoing conversations around AI, language, policy, social equity, and socially responsible innovation.
